Stealing and Defilement were the top criminal cases for which most people were convicted in the Asamankese Circuit Court of the Eastern Region from January to December 2021 with 43 cases, out of 87 total convicted in 18 different offenses.
At the end of 2021, the court presided over by His Honour Ababakari Abass Adams convicted 29 accused persons for stealing, and their sentences were between 60 days to 14 years while 14 others were also sentenced into prison custody in hard labor for defilement and the minimum sentence was seven years and the maximum was 20 years.
In the defilement cases, nine of the accused persons were jailed for seven years each two others were also sentenced to 12 years each, and the other two also had 15 years jail term each, but only one person was jailed 20 years under the period.
The court convicted four people for possessing Narcotic drugs and they were given 10 years each another four accused persons were also jailed two years each for escaping from lawful custody.
People who were involved in robbery cases were four and they were sentenced to prison custody for 18, 15, 18, and 25 years respectively.
A total of seven drivers were convicted for careless and inconsiderate driving and the minimum sentence for this offense was three months and the maximum was three years.
One each was sentenced for causing unlawful damage, possessing state property, Child stealing, Unlawful entry, Incent and use of unregistered motorbike.
In addition, two each were convicted for bribery, possession of firearms, and the threat of death, whilst four others were also jailed for causing harm.
