The Kids Out-Patients Department in the Asamankese Government of the Eastern Region recorded a total of 22,631 malaria cases from January to May 2020.
Under the period, no children die of malaria and no case were referred from the hospital, according to a Paediatric Nurse at the Kids ward, Madam Rebecca Komeng.
Speaking at the public sensitization program in Asamankese, the senior staff nurse, Madam Rebecca Komeng said malaria remains number one in the top ten diseases affecting children at the Hospital and called on parents and guardians to protect their kids from a mosquito.
She charged parents to make the health of their fewer than five years kids a priority and take them to hospitals frequently.
Children aged less than 5 years are the most vulnerable group affected by malaria. In 2018, they accounted for 67% (272 000) of all malaria deaths worldwide.

Malaria was responsible for 19% of all recorded deaths in Ghana in 2015. Malaria-attributable mortality has declined significantly from 19% (2010) to 4.2% (2016).
