The Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams has sentenced a 23-year-old Labourer to ten years imprisonment in hard labor for Possessing narcotic drugs contrary to section 2(1) of the Narcotic control enforcement and sanction Act, PNDC law 238 1990.
The police at Kade recently arrested the accused person for stealing five car batteries, a gearbox, and scraps so he was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment in hard labor by the kade district magistrate court.
The prosecution, Chief Inspector Susan Ayaric said the complainant is Akwatia police command whilst the accused person Abdul Mumuni Suleman 23 year is a mining Labourer and resident of Topreman Zongo.
On 5th May 2020 at about 2:00am the police had a distress call that the accused person was dealing with Narcotic drugs in Topreman.
Based on the intelligence gathered the police quickly preceded to the accused person’s house and found his door locked the police managed to enter and found the accused person lying on a student mattress and beside him was a small pink waist bag.
The accused was arrested and the police picked up the small pink bag for further investigation.
A search was conducted in the bag and it was disclosed that 67 rapped substance was suspected to be Indian hemp together with two boxes of matches and cigarettes, and Nokia mobile phone, a jack knife, a lighter, a blue smoking paper, a ring, empty roll-on container were all found in the pink waist bag.
The accused person was sent to the police station together with the items found on him and upon interrogation; he admitted ownership of the substance so the police sent it to the forensic crime laboratory at Accra for examination.
On 3rd February 2021, the result was received by the police and it confirmed that the substances were Indian hemp so the accused was charged with the offense and sent to court for prosecution.
