The Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams has sentenced a 36-year-old Designer, Issah Sulemana to 14 years imprisonment in hard labor for holding an offensive weapon and disturbing public peace.
Issah Sulemana was also charged for Abetment of Crime to wit disturbance of the law and Disturbing of lawful Assembly.
His accomplices, Seeba Gonja, 53 years was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment while Barima Kwasi Anyane was discharged and acquitted, Basiru Awal and Mohammed Muaah are at large, and one Baffour Kofi Debrah case was dealt with recently.
According to Prosecuting statement, on 09/01/2019, One Nana Debrah, a blind man, and some persons held a press conference at Anum-Asamankese and during the conference which was attended by four media personnel, Nana Debrah announced that Anum had no chief and called on Citizens to come together get a new chief.
The prosecuting statement said the Statement by Nana Debrah caused a stir so Barima Kwasi Anyane who was Chief that year quickly assembled men from Asamankese Old Zongo to disrupt the press conference.
The statement said the accused persons were armed with Cutlass and locally manufactured single barrel guns and descended on the gathering but it failed.
This brought a fierce scuffle and Issa Sulemana and his men later went to Barima Kwasi Anyane with injuries they went to Asamankese Police to report the case and they were given a medical form to seek treatment.
Soon after the report, the Police saw Cutlass on Musah Mohammed’s shirt after the confrontation and the police retrieved the Cutlass from him but Mohammed Muaah managed to run away from the Police station.
A few minutes later, Bashiru Awal and Baffour Kofi Debrah also arrived at the police station to report a case of assault by the accused persons and they were also given a medical form to the Hospital.
After investigation, Issah Sulemana and Seeba Gonja were charged with the various offenses and arraigned before court for Prosecution.
