Ghana Premier League giants are heading to the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) to challenge the decision by Confederation of Africa Football to eliminate them from the Champions League.
The CAF Champions League clash between Sudanese giants, Al Hilal Omdurman, and Asante Kotoko was called off due to a reported spike in coronavirus positive cases.
The Porcupines Warriors lost the first leg encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium by a lone goal some weeks ago and were hoping to turn the tie around in the second leg today, January 6, 2021, at the Al Hilal Sports Stadium in Sudan.
But the much anticipated game could not come off due covid-19 drama.
The Africa Club of the Century believes their hosts, Al Hilal, produced false COVID-19 test results to weaken the team ahead of the second leg encounter in Omdurman.
Seven players and four officials were reported to have tested positive leaving the Kumasi-based club with less than the required number to play the game.
A day after the game was called off, the continental football governing body in a tweet confirmed Asante Kotoko exit from the competition after releasing the 16 qualified teams to the group stages.
The decision has not gone down well with the Reds and will now challenge it at the highest sports tribunal.
Kotoko lost the first leg in Accra 1-0 and was determined to overturn the results in Sudan.
The Porcupine Warriors reached the final round of the qualifiers after gaining a second leg walkover Mauritanian FC Noaudhibou.
