Benjilo Foundation established by the Director of Finance at National Youth Authority, Benjamin Arkaa Otoo, a native of Kyebi has donated 200 pieces of mono desks to St. Stephens Senior High Technical School in Akyem Asiakwa in Abuakwa South Municipality in the Eastern region.
The school is facing a furniture crisis as about 1,114 students representing about 60% of the student population are without desks.
Students therefore either sit on the floor, lean against a wall or stand to learn.
The headmaster of the School, Frank Appiah said “Students population has increased tremendously which has become necessary for the school to increase classrooms furniture. There is serious congestion in classrooms some students at the moment sit in two in one mono desk, others also stand and some also sit on the floor for lessons which are hindering effective teaching and learning”.
The Founder of Benjilo Foundation Benjamin Arkaa Otoo said the plight of the school contained in a proposal sent to the foundation touched his heart due to his passion for quality education and academic success of the youth.
He said the foundation will foster close ties with the school for continuous support.
Mr. Benjamin Arkaa commended the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South Samuel Atta Akyea for what he has achieved so far in a Constituency that has lots of developmental challenges.
He, therefore, called on all and sundry to come on board to help fix challenges in Abuakwa South Municipality to improve the living conditions of the people.
Okyenhemaa Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua was saddened with the numerous challenges facing STEPSS School as narrated by the Headmaster.
She assured of conveying their plight to the appropriate quarters for a solution.
