The SOS Children’s Village marked its 40th anniversary with a colourful celebration, during which the Director, Madam Christina Adu, reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to nurturing future leaders and strengthening its core vision.
In her address, Madam Adu explained that the anniversary was a moment to re-kindle their vision, reflect on their achievements, identify shortcomings, and face challenges with renewed energy. She emphasized the need to re-double efforts as they enter a significant new phase, adding that the institution will continue improving its curriculum by integrating more technology and E-learning tools.
According to her, investing in children is one of the most valuable national assets, as these young people play a key role in shaping the future of the country. She further highlighted that SOS has committed itself to training children who pass through its system to become responsible, confident, and nationally relevant individuals.
Speaking at the event, Rt. Rev. S. N. Mensah described the 40th anniversary as more than just a milestone, calling it “a testimony of vision, sacrifice, perseverance, and impact.” He noted that the journey of SOS over the last four decades shows that progress is possible when institutions stay committed to their mission and values.
Rt. Rev. Mensah also expressed profound appreciation to the teachers, parents, and stakeholders whose efforts have contributed to the growth and success of the institution.
As part of his remarks, he posed a thought-provoking question on the state of education in Ghana: “What kind of leaders are we producing as a nation?” He observed that many public leaders—whether in government, churches, academia, sports, media, or politics—are not making the level of impact expected, despite the country’s enormous potential.
He stressed that the challenges facing the nation did not begin in Parliament, boardrooms, or church pulpits, but rather in the classroom, where foundational values and leadership qualities are shaped.
The anniversary celebration ended with a call to strengthen educational systems and continue investing in children who represent the future of the nation.
