A political communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Queku Abeiku, has expressed concerns about what he claims are internal strategic actions within the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He claims that party’s Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia is strategically positioning himself for a future flagbearer aspiration by influencing the makeup of the party’s national executives.
Speaking on Bryt FM’s Adekyee Musem with Kwamina Sam Biney on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Abeiku said recent developments within the NDC point to calculated steps aimed at controlling the party’s leadership structure ahead of future internal elections.
According to him, Asiedu Nketia harbors ambitions of becoming a potential flagbearer and has allegedly worked to ensure that executives loyal to him occupy key positions within the party.
“Asiedu Nketia is interested in being a prospective flagbearer. He has chosen his own executives, so when the time comes, they will be the ones to vote. By the time you, who are in government, decide to contest, he has already chosen the executives and even set a date,” Abeiku stated.
He further criticized what he described as “TIA tricks” within the NDC, arguing that the party’s recent internal processes lack genuine competition and transparency.
“When it comes to the NDC and their TIA tricks, it’s quite funny. The NDC went to the polls, and even then, there was no real contender. His Excellency John Dramani Mahama was the only option, yet even in a yes or no vote on him, we still recorded a ‘no’ vote,” he said.
When comparing the NDC’s internal democratic experience to his own political past, Abeiku stated that the opposition party lacks the resilience that comes from competitive primaries.
“They haven’t had proper primaries like we have for the last 20 years. They lack that kind of experience. We have endured everything, made it through, and are still here today,” he said.
He concluded by expressing confidence in his side’s preparedness for future political contests, stressing that they are now focused on consolidating their strengths ahead of the next election cycle. “We are ready to put our pieces together and face them,” Abeiku added.
