Enrollment has been dropping since 2019 in Asikasu Catholic Kindergarten and Junior High school in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region as Students and pupil shares an Iron sheet structure with stray Animals and snake.
Teaching and learning normally come to an end whenever it rains and sunny due to the nature of the structure.
Teachers at the school currently sit under trees to mark exercises of the students as birds and Snakes continue to chase them daily.
In an interview with the School Management Council (SMC) Chairman for the Primary and Junior High school, Mr. Philip Kwabena Obeng said the roof of the JHS ripped off in February 2019 during rainfall but the KG pupil has been in the Iron sheet Structure for some years now.
He said the nature of the school report was sent to the District Assembly in 2019 and on 2nd August of the same year, DCE for the Area, Mr. Eugene Sackey, and some GES officials came to the School and cut sod for the construction of new classrooms for both the KG and JHS witnessed by Local manager of Catholic Schools in the area, Reverend Father Paul Tordzro and chief of Asikasu.
According to him, the contractor came to the site on 26th August to prepare grounds but since then, nothing has been done again.
Mr. Obeng said several attempts have been made by the PTA, SMC, and Teachers but proved futile and called on the Central Government and Non-Governmental organizations as matter of urgency to come to their aid.
