The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman Thomas Ampem Nyarko has donated GHc10,000 to an education fund established by Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, Paramount Chief of Akwamu Traditional area.
The MP donated at durbar by the Chiefs and People of Akwamu Traditional area to observe the first Akwasidae festival after Supreme Court upheld the legitimacy of Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III a few weeks ago.
The donation is in furtherance of the MP’s commitment and cordial relationship with the Akwamu traditional area and quality education at large.
The MP has invested in education in the district and has recently launched the “Let’s Read Together ” project which seeks to encourage reading among school pupils in the Constituency.
Speaking at the Akwasidae, the paramount Chief of the Akwamu traditional area Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III reiterated their commitment to serve the Akwamu traditional area with humility, unity, and development cleared by the supreme court of Ghana as legitimate paramount chief of the Akwamu traditional area.
The apex court recently delivered judgment and brought to finality the over 30 years of chieftaincy litigation that was lingering within the Akwamu traditional area as to the legitimacy of Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III to ascend the Stool.
Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III said “my message is very simple, let us all come together as one big family because the litigations are over now, there are no more litigations, the 30 years chieftaincy litigation is over now and I thank God, we are all one people, all that is needed is to work together towards what is ahead of us, we already have the administration but we only need to seal all loopholes so I urge all my chiefs to help me do it”
“I need strong new ideas during my period as Akwamu paramount chief because the world is evolving and there are no more wars against others, everything lies on our minds to develop your community, it is more of a responsibility than a privilege for me to ensure that my people enjoy the needed development that they deserve”
“Our history and artifacts at the museum are an indication that we have a rich culture so I will make sure that Akwamu becomes a tourist hub in the Eastern region looking at the green nature, our water bodies, and mountains around us it tells the kinds of people in the Akwamu land,” he said.
The Akwamu paramount chief further urged that it is about time leaders and chiefs refrain from the indiscriminate sale of lands and think of rather investing in the lands for the future generation.
“Let’s stop the unlawful and indiscriminate selling of our lands, let now protect the little that is left because God will not create any additional lands, let us protect it for our children by investing into these lands”
I also urge all investors and businessmen to turn towards Akwamuman, many Akwamu people are abroad and do not want to come and invest because of some of these litigations but let it reach them that the litigation is over so they should all come and invest” he said.
His comment comes during the grand durbar at Akwamufie to mark the celebration of the Akwasidae festival and also to officially confirm the decision of the Supreme Court that Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III is indeed the paramount chief of Akwamu traditional area to the people of Akwamu under the theme “Let’s Unite to Build Akwamuman”.
Speaking on behalf of President Akufo Addo, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh said ” let us all come together and unite as one people and develop Akwamu again because Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III did not use a gun but he followed due process as the constitution demanded of him, so let us all rally our support behind Odeneho and drive Akwamuman forward”.
Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh also promised to support the fund after donating Ghc 20,000 for the durbar, because education is key to development in Akwamuman
The paramount Queen mother of the Akwamu traditional area Nana Afrakoma urged the government to channel a lot of its resources to the Akwamu traditional area once the litigation has come to an end.
She also urged the government and individuals to contribute to supporting the Nana Afrakoma Vocational school to help reduce the unemployment situation in the Akwamu area.
“About two years ago I realized that there are a lot of children here who need help in the form of artisanship, some of them have also completed school but have no jobs to do so I decided to start a vocational school to train those who need help but we cannot do it alone so I urge everybody to come on board and help us especially now that there is no litigation and there is peace here, this will help Akwamu to develop,” she said.
