The Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has expressed his commitment to leveraging the sports industry to create jobs and foster development in his constituency.
Recognizing the vast potential of the global sports market, he acknowledges the opportunities it offers for economic growth, especially for young people.
“The financial implications of football and sports, in general, are enermous and multifaceted,” he said, noting that sports generate billions in revenue and stimulate job creation from grassroots to professional levels.
Thomas Ampem Nyarko stressed the social benefits sports bring, particularly in education, community integration, and health.
“It is evident that sports promote inclusion and foster a sense of community, football serves as a powerful tool for social development, it engages the youth, reduces tendency of criminal conducts, and it also improve educational outcomes,” he added.
The global sports market reached a value of $484.9 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow to $651 billion by 2028.
The Asuogyaman MP stated that investing in sports would benefit the youth of Asuogyaman by providing them with avenues for career development, not only as athletes but also in roles such as refereeing, coaching, and physical trainers.
He pledged to continue supporting infrastructural projects for sports and attract strategic investors.
“Asuogyaman is becoming a sport talent development Hub with the likes of Right time Dream Academy producing great footballers of the years, we have to intentionally bring more sports investors here and ensure that local talents are also given attention”.
The MP revealed his plans in an interview following an inter-community soccer tournament for the Gyakiti zone, where the Marine community emerged as champions.
The tournament featured 11 teams from different towns, showcasing the talent and teamwork of local players.
He praised the event for fostering unity and community engagement through football.
All participating teams received cash rewards, with the top three teams taking home additional prizes, including a set of jerseys.
The lawmaker who is chairman of the Budget Committee of Parliament encouraged the youth to remain united and to harness their talents for future success, promising to organize more events to support local sports development.
