The Labolabo District Assembly Basic School in Asuogyaman District in Eastern Region has been grappling with severe challenges due to overcrowded and poorly ventilated classrooms, which have put the lives of pupils at risk.
The deplorable state of the 40-year old classrooms has led to a significant decrease in enrollment, as parents and guardians seek better learning environments for their children.
Assistant Headmaster Kofi Benjamin Teye explained that the situation had been dire, with classrooms lacking adequate ventilation, making it difficult for pupils to focus and learn.
However, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for the Asuogyaman constituency, has renovated some of the classrooms to provide better ventilation, easing the troubles faced by learners and educators daily.
The classrooms now have large windows, two ceiling fans in each and connected with electricity.
He also promised to continue renovating the remaining portions in the coming months.
The MP called for frequent maintenance of the building.
Thomas Ampem Nyarko was joined by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa MP for North Tongu to commission the project.
The renovation has since brought relief to the school community, who can now learn and teach in a safer and more conducive environment.
Adwoa Owusu, Asuogyaman district director of Education commended the MP for fulfilling his promises.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa donated ten laptop computers to the school.
