The Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Teddy Safori Addi has expressed gratitude to Parliament for the approval of the loan facility for the construction of a 40-bed capacity District Hospital in the constituency.
The Ayensuano District was carved out of then Suhum Kraboa Coaltar Municipality by Legislative Instrument Number 2052 and was inaugurated on 28th June 2012. The District has its capital at Coaltar.
However, the district does not have a district hospital hence residents predominantly peasant farmers depended on a few Health centers and CHPs compounds for minor primary healthcare but travel long distances to Nsawam or Suhum to access advanced healthcare due to the absence of a hospital in the district.
Parliament on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, approved a €38,928,898 loan to finance the construction and equipping of four (Ayensuano, Effiduase, and Offinso respectively) district hospitals in Ghana.
The money will also be used to complete and equip the Old Tafo and Kumasi South maternity blocks. The government said the increasing rate of population growth across the country has exerted enormous pressure on existing health facilities.
The approval of over 38 Million Euros loan agreement between Ghana and Deutsche bank of Frankfurt for construction of 40-bed District Hospitals in three constituencies was scuttled last week over lack of quorum per Supreme Court judgment.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the MP for Ayensuano, Teddy Safori Addi said the chiefs and people of Ayensuano have long cried for a district hospital to improve quality healthcare in reflection of the sustainable development goals hence ready to support the successful completion of the project.
“This afternoon, I had the opportunity to speak on the floor of parliament on the construction of the 40-bed capacity hospital in Ayensuano District. I convey the sentiments of the chiefs and other stakeholders on the need to prioritize the building and completion of District hospital in our beloved constituency.
As I indicated, I hope that the good people of Ayensuano whose interest I represent in the house will be happy to witness the implementation of this project successfully” said Teddy Safori Addi, MP Ayensuano.
