A group calling itself Concerned NDC youth and Branch executives of Ayensuano constituency in the Eastern region has warned the party leadership against attempt to manipulate the parliamentary primaries for the incumbent MP for the area Nana Yaw Safori Teddy to go unopposed in the parliamentary primaries .
According to the group, information gathered and same being schemed on Accra based radio station Ahotor fm by the morning show host Alaska De Don indicates that the party intends to declare the Ayensuano NDC Parliamentary seat as unopposed in favour of the incumbent MP Nana Yaw Safori Teddy.
The concerned NDC youth and Branch executives therefore demand that the party should allow any individual who qualifies to contest in the primaries to contest that whoever emerges winner will be giving the needed support by the constituents without any hesitation.
The aggrieved party faithfuls said this when addressing the media.
The convener ,Mante Gyebi Titus said, the NDC lost the Ayensuano parliamentary seat in the year 2000 to the NPP for 20 good years due to the imposition of candidates on the constituents by some big wings in the party therefore the NDC will shoot itself in the foot if same repeated.
“just a week ago the national executive committee of the party announced the opening of nomination forms for those willing to contest primaries in the various constituencies , Ayensuano together with 26 other constituencies has been postponed until further notice no reasons were given , we believe the reason for that of Ayensuano is to buy time for the honourable MP Nana Yaw Safori Tedi to do his hard work well before the primaries will be allowed to come on, we are serving notice to them all that what will be will be and the people shall not be taken for granted , we have moved on from that stage , we have lost confidence in him and no amount of time buying will save him”.
“When this honourable MP appears on the scene for the first time in 2015, he wasn’t even qualified to contest in Ayensuano but through the mechanization of some executives both Constituency and the regional he was allowed to contest , he allowed peace to reign because we in Ayensuano accept everybody ,in the primaries leading up to the 2020 elections this MP won with a very slim margin yet we all came together to push him to parliament , why are we being told to allow him to go unopposed this time , what has changed and what is he afraid of or Alaska De Don what are you afraid of , if the MP Nana Yaw Safori Tedi thinks that he has done so well as an MP why this mechanization to get him go unopposed” the statement reads.
The group further accused the MP for his failure to propagate the good work and messages of the former president H.E John Dramani Mahama in the constituency prior to the 2020 general elections during rallies because he thinks the constituents will vote against him but for the intervention of some branch executives they were able to project the message of the former president through the information centres in the area which granted them the victory.
Additionally, the group accused the MP for turning his back on the branch executives of the party in the constituency after fighting hard to secured him victory in the 2020 elections , saying the MP has been quite to criticize some unfavorable policies by the Akuffo Addo led government because he consider Ayensuano as NPP seat and is afraid of been voted against.
Mante Gyebi Titus accused political show host on Ahotor FM, “Alaska De Don for spearheading the unopposed agenda for the MP, “he is using his political talk show on radio to push that agenda forcefully , we are also in view that nobody should be prevented from contesting once they qualified to do so , it is said that those who feels it know it , Alaska De Don and by intention anybody who is not in the constituency cannot know and feel the impact of the MP Nana Yaw Safori Tedi leadership more than those of us who lives in the constituency”.
“If Alaska De Don claims he has the root in Ayensuano then he must know the history of Ayensuano NDC politics very well , he must know how we lost the seat in the year 2000 through issues leading up to the election when through the meditation of some big wings in Accra, the winner of the primaries was changed and the darling boy of the party was imposed on the people , he went on to win the main election but the apathy that set onwards damaging why we lost the next election in the year 2000”.
Meanwhile, speaking to some of the aggrieved youth , they insisted that the imposition of the MP on constituents as unopposed will only give rise to divisiveness and may endanger the winning strength the party holds in the Ayensuano constituency.
They however called on leadership of the party to give fair and equal opportunity to any individual who qualifies to contest to do so as the party constitution demands.
