The story has been told of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, aka DADDY LUMBA’s relationship with the late Theresa Nana Konadu Abebrese during their days in Juaben Secondary School, as it was then called.
Several versions of the story have been narrated to me by different people but one thing that runs through each narration is the kindness and love Theresa showed Charles.
Although they did not get married and go on to live happily ever after, what DADDY LUMBA did for Theresa Abebrese in his Theresa song is the ultimate immortalization, in my opinion.
‘Theresa’ is on Daddy Lumba’s first solo album, ‘Obi ate me so buo’ released in 1990.
Charles is grateful for all Theresa did for him and he made sure, that long after both he and Theresa are no longer here, generations will know.
There might have been several other women who went by the name Theresa Abebrese so Lumba made sure to add her residential address then so there’s no room for ambiguity.
In a part of the song, Charles croons, when he is thirsty, Nana Konadu gives him wine. If all women were like Theresa, Ghanaian men won’t suffer.
Four other persons get mentioned in the song for various kinds of assistance they offered to him at various times; Mary Agyekum of Asante Mampong Daaho, Akwasi Awuah of Nsuta Kyebi, Charles Kwabena Bonney and his Wife Abena Agyeiwaa of Nsuta Oyoko.
Sadly, Theresa Abebrese died in 2017 after a short illness.
