A peace meeting aimed at resolving long-standing tensions between Bawku Senior High School and Bawku Technical School turned violent when students from both schools attacked teachers, a local chief, and the Regional Police Commander with stones.
The incident occurred while officials were attempting to mediate a resolution to the ongoing conflicts between the two institutions.
According to eyewitnesses, Speaking to Kwamina Sam Biney on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem the rivalry between the two schools has persisted for over 20years, with frequent clashes between students. Leaders of both institutions had convened the meeting to address the escalating violence and restore harmony.
An eyewitness stated that the only physical separation between the two schools is a main road, which often leads to confrontations. He explained that fights frequently break out whenever Bawku Senior High School organizes entertainment events, as students from Bawku Technical School allegedly storm the premises and instigate violence without provocation.
Authorities are currently assessing the situation, and further measures may be taken to prevent future conflicts. Meanwhile, local leaders and security officials are urging calm as they seek a lasting resolution to the rivalry.
