Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana’s Vice president held bilateral discussions with the President of Estonia H.E. Alar Karis and Prime Minister H.E. Kaja Kallas, as well as officials of Estonia’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digitalization, in Tallinn, Estonia, as part of his working visit to the country.
Estonia is renowned as one of the most digitally advanced countries in the world, and with Ghana’s own digitalisation success, as a shining example in Africa, my discussions with the two Estonian leaders, and the Ministry, focused on our respective digital initiatives, and how they are positively impacting our countries.
Digital Ghana and e-Estonia, have a lot in common, as both digitalisation drives are anchored on a robust national identity systems, and Estonia’s e-Government, which has brought many public services online, is also similar to Ghana’s Ghana.Gov digital platform, which has onboarded several government agencies and brought public services online. Our rising rate of financial inclusion, through mobile money interoperability, is also similar to Estonia’s dominant online banking transactions.
The success story of Digital Ghana, has been made possible through the talents of young Ghanaians, and our country receiving commendations for what we have done in the just 7 years, by a global leader in digitalisation, was truly inspiring.
