The Begoro District Police Command has complained bitterly about numerous armed robbery attacks within the Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region.
The District Police Commander, DSP Emmanuel Darkwah Owiredu indicated that the activities of these robbers are terrorizing road users in the district, especially market women.
According to him, there have been a series of robbery cases in most areas of the district but for the swift intervention of the police, most of their operations have been foiled.
“We have now initiated a plan whereby the police escort market women to their destinations, both to and fro to give them the needed protection they deserve from these robbers terrorizing them” he added.
The Fanteakwa North district has over the years experienced many robbery cases, with the bad state of roads attributed as a major contributing factor.
Road users, as well as market women, have had several attacks on the Osiem-Begoro-Ahomamu-Deedeso roads, exposing many victims to the loss of their money and other properties.
Some of the cases have been attributed to nomadic Fulani herdsmen in the area as many victims have come out to confirm most of the attackers are of Fulani accent.
Meanwhile, DSP Owiredu has assured the public that his outfit would continue to put down responsive measures to ensure the district is safe for easy transport from one area to the other.
He, therefore, appealed for the support of the public in providing timely intervention to the police with fuel and other materials to aid them in their operations.
The Regent of Begoro and Chief of Deedeso, a victim of these robbery attacks has also called on the national security to a matter of urgency intervene in the situation to provide residents with adequate security.
He called for the audit of activities of Fulani herdsmen in the area as their influx poses a major threat to the security of the district.
This came into light at a durbar to observe the 63rd-anniversary celebration of Ghana after independence by the Assembly.
