The government is set to launch the Feed Ghana Initiative, a nationwide agricultural program aimed at increasing local food production and reducing dependence on imports.
Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, Hon. Sampson Ahi, Member of Parliament for Bodi Constituency and a Committee Member on Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs, emphasized that unlike the previous Planting for Food and Jobs policy—which focused mainly on farmers—the new initiative seeks to involve all Ghanaians.
He encouraged citizens, including non-farmers, to take advantage of unused spaces in their surroundings to grow essential crops such as tomatoes, onions, and peppers.
To support the initiative, the government plans to establish regional buffer stocks and warehouses to store surplus food, ensuring long-term food security. Additionally, fertilizers will be provided to all participants in the program.
Hon. Ahi urged Ghanaians to embrace the initiative, stressing that collective participation is key to making Ghana self-sufficient in food production.
