The Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) has held a special inclusive service with the Akropong School for the Blind at the International Central Gospel Church(ICGC), Akropong in Eastern region.
The service which took place on Sunday, March 16th, aimed to bridge the gap between the visually impaired and the church community aside the production of Braille and Audio Bibles.
It was a unique and uplifting service as visually impaired students from the Akropong School for the Blind took center stage, participating in Bible readings and musical activities.
Delivering the sermon was Reverend Eric Acheampong, an Associate Minister at Grace Presbyterian Church, Akropong. Rev. Acheampong, who lost his sight in 2020 after contracting chickenpox.
He spoke passionately against discrimination towards persons with disabilities within the Christian community.
“We should not in anyway discriminate when giving out the Gospel to the people. What I will recommend to the church to do is to involve everybody in their services. We shouldn’t isolate the physically challenged from the general congregation when services are going on. Everybody should be part of the service. The church should be truthful in a way that they make frantic effort for a ministry in the churches to care for the physically challenged and everybody who comes to church”.
Rev. Acheampong also commended the Bible Society of Ghana for their efforts in producing Braille and Audio Bibles, describing it as a crucial step toward enhancing inclusiveness.
Speaking on behalf of the Bible Society of Ghana, Programs Officer Mr. Samuel Adjei Ntow reiterated their commitment to fostering inclusive evangelism by making scripture accessible to the visually impaired.
Head Pastor of ICGC Akropong, Pastor Kelvin Omari-Koranteng, also highlighted the importance of the program as a reminder to the church to do more to support inclusivity, despite already having a visually impaired keyboardist.
To climax the occasion, the Eastern Regional Manager of the Bible Society of Ghana, Elder Stephen Awaga, made a symbolic presentation of Braille and Audio Bibles to the Akropong School for the Blind.
