District Chief Executive of Birim North Raymond Damptey has vowed to deal with anyone or group of persons who brand shield guns in two name of providing security in the district.
Reacting to an incident where some persons believed to be taskforce of the Akyem Kotoku traditional council were seen holding pump action guns on streets of New Abirem, the DCE insisted that such action was illegal and warned not to entertain such activities that may generate security lapses in the coming days.
The Chairman of the District Security Council (DISEC) speaking with Bryt fm Adekyee Mu Nsem host Kwamina Sam Biney stressed the activities of the taskforce is not known to his outfit and therefore cannot be allowed to operate as they are doing now.
He revealed that he personally saw seven men with pump action guns each on the streets of New Abirem and has to take the intervention of the Paramount chief to disperse them back to the palace where they are said to be security guards.
“Two of the guns were registered in the name of the chief but it not not allowed to use the gun of others unless transfer of ownership is made” the DCE stated.
He assured the people in the municipality that the DISEC has taken bold decisions to ensure the security of lives and properties are well secured.
Meanwhile, information gathered by Bryt fm also highlited the taskforce was formed to provide Security for the traditional council and help deal with illegal mining in the area.
