Former Ghana international Prince Tagoe has raised concerns about the character and commitment of Black Stars players following their disappointing start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Black Stars, who are four-time champions of the AFCON has struggled to find their rhythm in the qualifiers, losing one and drawing after three matches in Group F.
Ghana hosted the Falcons Jediane in the first leg of the doubleheader on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the Accra Sports Stadium. Despite Ghana’s dominance, the game ended in a pulsating goalless draw.
With just two points after three matches, Tagoe has criticized the players’ character in matches, saying it the team’s biggest problem.
Speaking to Kwamina Sam Biney on Bryt FM’s Adekye Mu Nsem, the former Hearts of Oak star said, “If the players can replicate at least 80% of the performances they exhibit at their various clubs, we will undoubtedly win games. We have good players, but the character they exhibit in approaching Black Stars games is very low and that has been our biggest problem”
Ghana will need to put on a much-improved performance in their upcoming game if they are to keep their AFCON 2025 hopes alive.
The West African powerhouse will travel to Tripoli, Libya to battles it out in the return leg against Sudan.
Otto Addo and his charges will have to negotiate for a positive result to keep chances of securing a spot at AFCON 2025 alive.
