Farmers in Tuobodom, one of the widely known towns for production of quality tomatoes and other vegetables are calling on Government to put measures in place to process and store their produce do help deal with annual harvest losses.
Mr. Seth Agyei Fosu, 2009 National Best Tomato farmer in Ghana and the 2019 National Best Tree Crop farmer has revealed that the erstwhile President J. A. Kuffuor administration started a Tomato Processing Factory at Techiman but due to some technical reasons could not complete.
He noted that successive Governments have abandoned the project leaving machines procured for that purpose to rust while tomatoes farmers have suffer at the end.
Mr. Seth Agyei Fosu made this passionate appeal to President Akufo-Addo through the Bono East Regional Minister, Kwasi Adu-Gyan, when he met with Nananom of Tuobodom and Offuman as part of his official working visit to the area.
For his part, Mr. Martin Kwabena Agyei, the current Chief farmer of Techiman North District lamented how tonnes of fresh tomatoes are rotten away in the bushes but expectant farmers look on stranded every morning at the roadside without getting buyers.
Meanwhile, Hon. Kwasi Adu Gyan, the Bono East Regional Minister after having given very heartwarming responses to the farmers, also promised to fix the bad road networks in Techiman North District to ease the challenges of both farmers and residents.
