The Techiman North and South District Assemblies in the Bono East Region have once again failed to elect Presiding Members after four times of elections in two meetings.
As our cherished listeners may recall, following the inaugurations of various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (about 259 MMDAs) across the country on 12th February, 2024; Elections of Presiding Members were expected to follow but could not succeed in the Techiman North and South District Assemblies as none of the candidates could secure the required votes.
During a second meeting in the Techiman Municipal Assembly; none of the two candidates i.e. Nana Boakye Ameyaw Pentemprem (Nifa Hene of Techiman/Gov’t Appointee & incumbent PM) and Hon. Zakaria Mohammed (Assembly Member for Tanoso Ahenfie electoral area) after two rounds of voting could emerge victorious making them both ineligible to contest again.
Hon. Benjamin Yaw Gyarko the MCE for Techiman in an interview with Peace News said this was because of the entrenched position of the NDC Party Leadership to deny the Assembly of a Presiding Member for parochial partisan reasons.
Also in the Techiman North District; Two candidates i.e. Hon. Yeboah Richard of Krobo Acheaw Electoral Area and Hon K. B. Asante of Aworowa Amangoase Kobeda Electoral area contested for the Presiding Member position.
None was able to secure the required votes to be declared Winner making them both ineligible to contest again giving room for another meeting; Hon. Everson Addo-Donkor the DCE for Techiman North accused the NDC MP for the Constituency Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare for being behind all these.
Meanwhile, the reporter spoke to the National Democratic Party Leadership who denied the allegations saying; “the Chief Executives have themselves to blame for their failures”.
