Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been remanded into police custody and is scheduled to reappear in court on September 12, 2025.
Speaking to the media after the court proceedings, Abronye’s lawyer, Daniel Martey, expressed surprise at the decision, questioning why his client was remanded over what he described as a misdemeanour.
“The accused person was arraigned before the court, and it appears the prosecution simply wanted him to be remanded. We responded to the police’s invitation, and the charges against my client were merely misdemeanours. In law, misdemeanours are the most basic category of offences, and that should not be the basis for remand,” he stated.
The Ghana Police Service, in an earlier statement, explained that Mr. Baffoe’s arrest was linked to what it described as “offensive” conduct conducive to the breach of the peace.
