The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Council of Elders in the Bono Region, James Kofi Kyeremeh—widely known as “Shekinah”—has expressed strong optimism about the party’s prospects of returning to power in the 2028 general elections under the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Mr. Kyeremeh is urging delegates across the country to endorse the former Vice President as the party’s presidential candidate during the upcoming NPP primaries scheduled for January 2026. According to him, the Bono Regional Council of Elders has unanimously thrown its support behind Dr. Bawumia, citing his credibility, nationwide appeal, and experience in governance as key assets.
Speaking during an interview in Sunyani on Thursday, Mr. Kyeremeh said: “We are gearing up for the 2028 campaign in earnest, and many of us strongly believe that Bawumia is the most capable candidate to lead the NPP back to victory.”
The endorsement was reiterated during a meeting between Mr. Kyeremeh and Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, a notable figure in the NPP and a campaign team member for Dr. Bawumia. The gathering, which involved members of the regional Council of Elders, aimed to consolidate support ahead of the primaries.
Mr. Mensah, while acknowledging the competence of other aspirants, emphasized Dr. Bawumia’s visibility and public appeal as significant advantages. He noted that the NPP’s performance in the 2024 elections—where it secured 41 percent of the vote—offered a solid base from which to launch a successful 2028 campaign.
As part of his visit, Mr. Mensah also made a financial donation to aid the Council’s political activities, reinforcing the campaign’s commitment to grassroots engagement.
