The Ministry of Health on Friday held a stakeholder meeting to discuss the implementation process of the conversion of the Bono Regional Hospital into a Teaching Hospital after Cabinet approved a memorandum for the conversion.
Cabinet requested the Ministry of Health to work towards upgrading the hospital to a Postgraduate Medical College while collaborating with the Ministry of Education to establish a Medical School at the University of Energy and Natural Resources.
Discussions at the meeting bothered on the acquisition of land for infrastructural development for the teaching hospital and medical school, equipment needs of the teaching hospital and medical school, startup funding, workforce, short-term, medium-term and long-term implementation plans as well as the formation of a standing committee for implementation.
The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwaku Agyemang Manu addressing participants at the meeting remarked that “It is evident that the conversion to a Teaching hospital status will strengthen the Bono Regional Hospital’s position as a Center of Excellence and attract top-tier medical professionals to the region. They would have an opportunity to work in an environment that values education, research and academic collaboration. This influx of specialists and other healthcare professionals will not only benefit our patients but also contribute to the economic growth of our region, as the Bono region becomes a powerful hub of healthcare, innovation and research”.
He further urged his fellow Ministers, especially the Minister of Education through the University of Natural Resources to push the agenda for the start of processes for the medical school.
