The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) together with the Strengthening Border and Migration Management in Ghana (SMMIG) has started stakeholders’ consultation towards a new strategic plan for the year, 2023 to 2028.
The development of the new strategic plan was funded by the Government of Denmark to provide a direction to the GIS in the next seven years.
The workshop is expected to capture Government’s approach to the new GIS Strategic Plan consultation for the upcoming years.
Madam Amala Nwalor-Obiokoye, the Acting Head of the Office for the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) indicated the GIS has achieved its previous strategic plans, including managing and provisions of the necessary equipment, border control and their day to day activities.
Speaking to the press during the first-day consultation in Koforidua, Madam Amala Obiokoye affirmed that the new plan is going to focus on the weaknesses of the GIS in the past years.
She emphasised the workshop is a strategic process of the GIS to consult government stakeholders to improve on their mandate, adding that ICMPD is supporting GIS to achieve its plans in the next five years.
The Comptroller General of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Mr Kwame Asuah Takyi, in his remarks stated the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic has affected their activities.
However, Mr Kwame Takyi assured that pragmatic measures have been put in place to help in the establishment of a cyber security solution centre.
Mr Kwame Takyi again stressed that his outfit’s main strategic goal is to become ICT driven immigration institution in Africa to foster their activities.
He, therefore, commended the Government of Denmark and the European Union for supporting the service to achieve its plans in the next five years.
Finally, he pledged the GIS is working massively to improve its services and deliver its best to serve the country to make their activities beneficial to citizens of the country.
