Southern African Country, Botswana has set sights on hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Botswana first appearance at the continental showpiece occurred in 2012 and according to the Minister of youth, sports and cultural development, Tumiso Rakgare the country is expected to build on the determination it showed ahead of the 2012 AFCON tournament to bid for the 2027 hosting right.
He affirmed President Mokgweetsi Masis’s led government are keen about hosting the biennial African football showpiece and has therefore charged the Botswana Football Association to bid when it is eventually submitted.
“As it is no secret that the government would like Botswana to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, we bank on you as the BFA to enhance the chances of success of the country’s bid when it is eventually submitted”
“I have no doubt that with proper structures, we can do far better by 2027,” said Rakgare, adding that Botswana should even see an exponential growth in the number of professional footballers and other athletes with preparations for the 2027 AFCON and other international events the country wishes to host” he said at the 2020 Botswana Football Association general assembly.
Cameroon will be the host country for the 2021 edition of the AFCON.
