The Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams has sentenced 18-year-old employed, Godfred Okoh, to 24 months imprisonment in hard labor for stealing and causing harm.
Godfred Okoh, who is popularly known as Baba Fuseini pleaded guilty to the charges after a full trial.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Richard L. Adukpo said the Complainant, Joseph Ayitey is a driver residing at Tema whiles accused Godfred Okoh, of Baba Fuseni is an unemployed residing at Ekoso near Osenase.
He said about a year ago the complainant traveled with his Toyota Rav 4 vehicle with Registration no.ER 200-14 to funeral at Akokoaso and on his return to Tema, the vehicle developed a fault at Otwenkwanta near Osenase.
The complainant towed his vehicle to a mechanic at Kwasi Kyei for repairs and left it behind and went to Tema.
The mechanic who happens to be the accused person’s uncle detected an engine fault and called the complainant to inform him about it.
The complainant was not having money by then for the maintenance and decided to come and tow his car away later when he gets money he continues with the repairs. The complainant came to the shop and found out that, the front tires and the hub have been removed by the mechanic whiles he was repairing it and for that matter, he could not tow it away and he went back hoping to get money to buy the faulty parts to be fixed.
The mechanic is known as Owusu also traveled to Accra for some work over the past three months. On 26/06/2022 at about 8:00 am the accused person went to his uncle’s shop and forcibly opened the door of the vehicle and got access to it and opened the bonnet where he unlawfully removed the engine from it and in the process break some parts of the engine before he pulled it down in an attempt to steal it away.
The accused person further cut the wiring system of the car and removed the control board and gearbox of the vehicle. The accused person successfully removed those parts and went to hire a tricycle to convey his booty to a potential buyer.
The tricycle rider immediately alerted some members of the community where the accused person was surrounded and police were called to arrest him.
An accused person admitted the offense in his caution statement and after investigation accused person was charged with the offense to appear before this honorable court.
