A nine (9) year old pupil has been crushed to death by a speeding tipper truck vehicle at Awutu Beraku in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.
The accident occurred the morning of Thursday, June 3, 2021.
The deceased was on his way to school with his younger brother but while crossing the road at Akrampa junction, a few meters before reaching Awutu Beraku Township on the Kasoa – Winneba Stretch of the Highway, the speeding Tipper Truck with registration number GR 8763-21 from Kasoa heading towards Awutu Beraku knocked down the boy died instantly but the other escaped death.
Some Eyewitnesses narrating what transpired to Bryt FM News Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah said, such accidents persistently do occur here since there are no speed ramps to reduce the vehicle’s speed.
Chief Inspector Teiko in charge of Winneba MTTD Command in an interview with Bryt FM News Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah confirmed the terrible accident adding that the body of the deceased has been sent to Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy and investigations.
Meanwhile, residents are calling on the Ghana Highway Authority to construct rumble strips on the highway to reduce the speed of vehicles on the road to curb the cases of fatal pedestrian knockdowns.
