Nana Asamoah Yeboah Afari, the visionary founder of The Royal Senchi Hotel and Resort in Akosombo, has passed away .
According to sources, he died in a hospital in Accra after taken ill on Monday.
The cause of death is not known.
His unexpected death has sent shockwaves through Akwamu traditional area where he was a sub chief,as well as the Ghana’s tourism and hospitality sector, where he is celebrated as a pioneer.
The Royal Senchi Hotel and Resort, located along the scenic Volta River in Ghana’s Eastern Region, stands out for its unique blend of traditional Ghanaian architecture and modern luxury. With 84 rooms offering stunning views, the hotel has established itself as one of West Africa’s top hospitality destinations. The resort also boasts a 35-acre nature park, home to rare butterflies and bird species, attracting guests seeking both relaxation and a touch of nature.
In a recent interview with renowned YouTuber Wode Maya, Nana Asamoah shared that his inspiration for founding the hotel stemmed from his fiancée’s passion for hospitality. At the time, he was the deputy director of a banana plantation in a rural area of the Eastern Region, but he envisioned creating a premier hospitality venue that reflected both Ghanaian culture and world-class standards. He credited the success of the Royal Senchi to the dedicated professionals who worked with him to realize his vision.
Beyond the hotel’s walls, Nana Asamoah’s impact on the local community was significant. His contributions included refurbishing the Atimpoku Police Station, maintaining the Atimpoku Roundabout, renovating the Akwamu Palace, and sponsoring the Abeduru Festival to celebrate local heritage. The hotel also organizes annual Earth Day events, planting over 400 trees to support environmental conservation in the area.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he led the hotel to make several donations to support health services in the area.
In the recent Akosombo Dam spillage, Nana Afari led the hotel to also donate relief items to the Asuogyaman district assembly for the victims.
The Royal Senchi has become a pillar of the Asuogyaman District, fostering local partnerships and contributing to security and conservation efforts.
Nana Asamoah’s legacy extends far beyond the hospitality industry, with his dedication to community development leaving an indelible mark on the region.
