An inmate of Koforidua Prisons has sustained life-threatening injuries while splitting large quantities of woods with axe and hatchet for a bakery company, Janemud bakeries at Betom a suburb of Koforidua in the Eastern regional capital.
The incident occurred today Thursday, February 18, 2021, around 9:00am.
The inmate’s name yet to be identified was being supervised by a Prison officer.
According to eyewitnesses, the prisoner said to have only a month left to serve his prison sentence missed a wood he was splitting, and accidentally axed himself on the thigh near his genitals.
He sustained a deep cut and bled profusely.
Attempt to apply the first aide to stop the blood flow failed as the Prisoner collapsed in the process.
He was rushed to Eastern Regional Hospital in a tricycle which was the only immediate available means of Transport.
