Attorneys for Democracy Hub activist and organizer Oliver Barker-Vormawor have vehemently refuted accusations that their client was involved in bribery involving the majority of Parliament’s Appointments Committee members.
This follows Barker-Vormawor’s summons by the Committee due to a contentious social media post that was attributed to him and claimed that committee members had accepted bribes.
Barker-Vormawor’s principal attorney appeared before the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 29. Nana Ato Dadzie, firmly stated: “The statement is fake; this is not coming from Mr Vormawor. He never posted that statement. The statement reads: ‘NDC members on the Appointments Committee take monies from Mahama’s ministerial nominees before approving them, and the Deputy Speaker must submit himself to ORAL.’
This is not from Mr. Vormawor. He didn’t say it at all. This is a reporter’s speech. We apologise for the post he made. Oliver Vormawor is ready to apologise.”
The attorneys stressed, however, that a different statement on Barker-Vormawor’s Facebook page that accused every committee member of accepting bribes prior to screening was not intended to denigrate committee members.
His attorney claims that the post on his page was merely intended to inform the public about some reports that he had learned about.
