The Eastern Regional Director of the Veterinary Service in Koforidua has advised men to stay away from dead animals especially when the reason for their death is unknown.
Unveiling the consequences in consuming dead animal, Doctor Adetor Emmanuel said they might be infected with Brucellosis, a disease that can cause men to be impotent.
“If an animal is infected with brucellosis and it dies, any man who will get in contact with the blood can be impotent, therefore, if by any means one consume a slice of meat with such disease will definitely land him or her to death,” Says Doc. Adetor.
Brucellosis is a highly contagious zoonosis caused by ingestion of unpasteurized milk or undercooked meat from infected animals, or close contact with their secretions
Explaining the symptoms in animals, Dr Adetor Emmanuel said that ’If a cow is infected by anthrax, it will start bleeding from the nose and other parts of its bodies such as the ears and anus.”
Outlining the dangers of working in the veterinary department, he advised that there is no need to be frightened with proper care though the nature of their work is very risky.
Dr Adetor in an interview with Bryt FM’s reporter, Richard Ayisah, he revealed that two deadly diseases in animals called Anthrax and Brucellosis have been found in some regions in Ghana especially the Northern Region and Volta region but fortunately for Eastern Region, no case has been recorded yet.
As measures in keeping the status of Eastern Region regarding the disease outbreak, Dr Emmanuel relates that competent people have been hired at the slaughterhouses checks animals before they are killed. This is to make sure that the meat is in good condition for consumption before distributing it to costumers.
“We have not yet recorded the deadly diseases in the Eastern Region. In a case where we encounter a circumstance, we will do our possible best to ascertain remedies to dissipate the disease.”
He then advises the public to be careful when buying meat precisely cows and slaughter the animals in a renounced registered abattoir.
