In the wake of recent denials by Mr. Fred Oware, Senior Advisor to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, concerning Bryan Acheampong’s financial role in the 2023 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries in the Eastern Region, it is important to set the record straight. While political narratives can be contested, facts remain undeniable, and in this matter, the facts are far more widely known than Mr. Oware’s rebuttal admits.
The reality; especially to those within the Eastern Region; is that Bryan Acheampong’s support for Dr. Bawumia’s flagbearer campaign is neither a fabrication nor a whispered rumor. It is a matter of public knowledge, experienced firsthand by the very delegates who participated in the process. Constituency executives, polling station officers, and grassroots organizers are fully aware of the role the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and played. For many of them, his interventions were not abstract contributions but tangible support received in their hands.
Indeed, Bryan Acheampong himself has openly stated that he single-handedly financed Bawumia’s Eastern Region primaries campaign, emphasizing that the Vice President “did not bring a penny” into the region during that critical period. His disclosure, though contested, is consistent with accounts shared by delegates who attest to receiving financial backing channelled through his office. For these stakeholders, this is not a debate; rather it is lived experience.
Attempting to deny this reality, as Mr. Oware has done, risks insulting the intelligence of party faithful who were direct beneficiaries of that support. Political communication thrives on credibility; therefore, it is neither prudent nor ethical to disregard widely acknowledged truths. The narrative that “no such support occurred” is simply not sustainable in the face of overwhelming awareness within the party structure in Eastern Region.
Moreover, this conversation should not be reduced to personal attacks or attempts at discrediting individuals. Bryan Acheampong’s support; whether in the form of logistics, funding, or mobilization; was, at its core, a demonstration of loyalty to the NPP’s internal democratic process and to Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy. To recast such support as nonexistent is not only disingenuous but also erodes the integrity of intra-party dialogue.
It must be underscored that acknowledging Bryan’s role does not diminish Dr. Bawumia’s political capital. Rather, it highlights the collaborative effort that characterized his campaign. Every successful bid in politics is powered by a coalition of supporters; some offering ideas, others offering logistics, and still others providing financial strength. Bryan Acheampong’s contribution simply reflects this dynamic.
As we reflect on this episode, let us remember that the credibility of our politics is anchored in truthfulness. Delegates in the Eastern Region know what they saw, what they received, and who provided it. No amount of spin can erase their lived reality. Respecting that truth is the first step towards strengthening unity within the party.
In conclusion, Bryan Acheampong’s financial and logistical support to Dr. Bawumia’s campaign in the Eastern Region is a reality well known to the party’s base. Denials may attempt to cloud the truth, but they cannot change it. As the NPP marches toward future contests, it is imperative that leaders remain honest and transparent, for it is only through truth that trust is built and sustained.
