The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia chaired a meeting for the integration of the databases of the Ghana Health Service, National Health Insurance Authority, National Identification Authority, the Ghana Statistical Service.
According to the Vice President “We have been working on this for a year now and we are finally there”.
As a product of the work, Dr. Bawumia was happy to announce that from the end of the first quarter of next year, children born in Ghana will be issued a National ID card (Ghanacard) number from birth as is done in many advanced nations.
He stressed “My thanks to the heads of the NIA, Ghana Statistical Service, Ghana Health Service, and the National Health Insurance Authority for their hard work and cooperation on this project. We also expect the integration of the birth registry in due course”.
