President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed a son of Paramount Chief, Buipe Traditional area, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II as Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources Minister.
The Minister, who is an immediate past Deputy Chief of Staff, Samuel Abu Jinapor, unseated the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Adam Mutawakilu in the Damongo Constituency of the Savannah Region in December 7th, 2020.
Jinapor polled 15,671 votes to defeat the NDC MP, Mutawakilu who polled 13,330 votes while an independent candidate David Tiki Dange polled 296 votes with 499 rejected ballots.
On the presidential election in the constituency, the NDC candidate John Mahama won the election polling 16,231 votes’ whiles President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo polled 12,264 votes
Samuel Jinapor was born in 1983 to Abudulai Jinapor, a former police officer and Chief of Buipe in the Northern Region of Ghana.
He attended the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics in 2006.
He proceeded to the University of Ghana in 2008 where he earned a Bachelor of Laws in 2010. That same year, he was admitted to read LLB at Ghana School of Law, Makola, Accra. He was called to the Ghana Bar in 2012 as a Solicitor and Barrister of the Supreme Court of Ghana.
He also holds a Master of Laws in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the Faculty of Law, University Of Ghana.
After the Ghanaian general election in 2016 President Akuffo-Addo, appointed him to be the Deputy Chief of Staff to Frema Opare. At the time of his appointment, he was 33 years old.
His appointment received a mixed reaction from New Patriotic Party members and the Ghanaian populace. Some believed he was too young to hold such a sensitive position while others also held the view that he abandoned the party after it lost the 2012 Ghanaian general election.
Abu Jinapor was employed in 2012 at the commercial and corporate law firm, Kulendi@Law, upon his graduation from the Ghana School of Law. His two years at the firm saw him rise from a pupil to senior associate.
Samuel Abu Jinapor (born 1983) is a Ghanaian lawyer and politician.
From 2013 to 2017, a brother of the Akufo-Addo Minister-designate, John Abdulai Jinapor born June 8, 1979, was a Deputy Minister of Power under the erstwhile Mahama-led NDC administration and MP who has entered the second term in Parliament, representing the Yapei Kusawgu Constituency in the Northern Region on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.
He has a Post Graduate Diploma from the University of London, a Master’s Degree from the University of Ghana, a BSC Degree from the University of Development Studies, and a Diploma from the Institute of Management, U.K.
