The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested 26 persons suspected to be internet fraudsters also known as “Sakawa Boys”.
The suspects, including two female accomplices, were arrested by the police based on intelligence.
According to the Police, the suspects were arrested at Iron city, a suburb of Kasoa from three apartments.
During the raid at the houses, the police retrieved 31 laptops, 26 assorted mobile phones, 3 machetes, and some dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, Indian including some candies suspected to have been laced with cannabis.
The Central East Regional Police Commander DCOP Okyere Boapeah Kojo told Bryt FM News Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah that, the suspects were being screened for onward prosecution.
The Police Command admonished landlords who rent out their apartments to foreigners particularly Nigerians to conduct proper background checks on them including finding out about their eligibility status from the immigration service.
He said the operation is part of an effort by the newly created regional command to create a safe environment at Kasoa which was notorious for high profile crimes and insecurity.
