Five(5) District and Municipal Assemblies in the Central Region have resolved to partner with the Police in the fight against recent highway robberies within the areas.
The Assemblies at an emergency MUSEC meeting in Winneba resolved to intensify patrols on the highway to curb the growing number of highway robberies on the stretch.
The Kasoa – Winneba – Cape Coast stretch since the beginning of the year has witnessed four major highway robberies in all within a spate of one week.
The Gomoa Dabenyi incident saw one driver and two passengers being shot by the robbers while the Gomoa Dominase incident saw passengers robbed off their valuables without any casualties.
In the third incident that happened between Gomoa Dominase and Potsin, passengers onboard in commercial and private vehicles were also robbed with the last one happening at Apam Junction – Winneba Stretch of the main highway.
The MMDAs, which includes; Effutu Municipal Assembly, Agona West Municipal Assembly(Agona Swedru), Gomoa Central, Gomoa East(Gomoa Potsin) and Gomoa West(Apam) District Assemblies respectively engaged in emergency MUSEC meeting together with Security officials to find a lasting solution to the robberies on the stretch.
Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipality who chaired the meeting spoke to Bryt Fm News Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah stressed the steps taken would help deal with the canker.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, also the Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Hon Alexander Afenyo Markin also urged persons who live within Winneba and its environs to report suspected persons to police for action to be taken.
