Three(3) people are reported dead after a deep galamsey pit collpased on about 20 illegal miners who were operating in the night at Bremang in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central region.
An eyewitness, Fatau, told Dadi FM morning show host Abena Pokua Ahwenee that the incident occured at about 4:00am to 5:00am Wednesday, May 26, 2021.
He said two (2) persons rescued are in critical condition hence rushed to the hospital.
He added, majority of the 20 illegal miners could be women because they carry the gold dust for washing during such period.
According to the eyewitness, two out of the three people who have been declared dead are not known in the community.
“The incident occurred 4 to 5 am in Bremang. Men and women who went to illegally mine gold at night were trapped under the galamsey pit. Three (3) have been retrieved dead, two (2) rescued but in critical condition, 15 are still trapped. The rescue team say they are going to get excavators. The women may be many because they carry the load for washing. The pit is about two light poles deep. Very deep.”
