The Gomoa West District Security Council (DISEC) says mass burial will be conducted on Thursday, March 11, 2021, for the 14 Children who drowned in the sea at Apam in the Central region.
The decision was taken after a meeting with the bereaved family and other stakeholders.
The District Chief Executive for Gomoa West District Bismarck Nkum, the Assembly will bear the cost of the burial and mortuary as well other expenses.
The drowning incident occurred Sunday, March 7, 2021, at about 5:00pm when the children between the ages of 14 and 17 years reportedly went through an illegal route through a lagoon in order not to be noticed by the leadership of the fishermen at the beach before getting to the other side of the beach to swim.
According to information gathered, as the children were swimming, a heavy tidal wind blew and got them drowned and their bodies were carried away.
The bodies of the deceased persons were subsequently retrieved.
