The Minority Leader and the Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency in the Central Region, Hon. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson has entreated the Central Regional House of Chiefs to probe government’s move have Lithium mined at various constituencies in the region.
Addressing Chiefs of the revered house during the house’s last sitting for the year, the Minority Leader relayed the need for chiefs in the region to get curious of government’s undertaken lithium deal which has already been signed without the knowledge of parliament.
The Lithium deal as highlighted by the Minority Leader, has government reach out a controversial Mining Lease Agreement with Barari DV Lithium and the Atlantic Lithium of Australia for the exploitation of Lithium and other associated minerals in five different districts in the Central Region.
These districts include Ekumfi, Mfantseman, Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa and the Agona East and West Districts.
Hon. Ato Forson expressed that the Ghana Lithium deal which in the sight of government appears profitable to the country, is never in the best interest of Ghanaians, hence the need for the house to have the deal well scrutinized and deliberated upon.
President for the Central Regional House of Chiefs who doubles as the Paramount Chief of the Breman Traditional Area, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII following the issue onboard, stressed to have facilitated a meeting between the Region’s House of Chiefs and Members of Parliament as well as politicians within the Central Region to extensively brainstorm on the region’s development.
This meeting according to Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu is slated to hold on January 8, 2024, a few days before parliament resumes its scheduled activities for next year.
