Tension is emanating from the Agona East constituency of the Central region between the incumbent Member of Parliament, Queenstar Pokua Sawyer, and the camp of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate, Professor Kwasi Yankah.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislator is been accused of tearing down posters of her contender, who is the Deputy Minister of Education in charge of tertiary.
The NPP constituency treasurer, Mr. Seth Arhin, speaking to Bryt FM Regional correspondent, Eric Owusu Amponsah indicated that the MP had earlier instructed some youth in the constituency to tear down posters of their candidate with one one of them in police grips.
He stressed the NPP leadership in the constituency wanted to leave the matter out of court but the actions of the incumbent MP show it is a deliberate attempt to engage in such acts.
“We arrested one young man who revealed the MP ordered him to remove the posters so he was even sent to court last Friday. We wanted to settle the case out of court but the latest action of the MP shows that she is indeed behind the act” Mr. Arhin stressed.
Meanwhile, the incumbent MP, Queenstar Pokua Sawyer responding to the allegations, confirmed that indeed she removed the posters of the deputy minister because the posters were placed on a market she built for her constituents with her hard-earned money.
“I built the market with my own money, not from my Common Fund. Also, I just painted the market about two weeks ago so there is no way I would allow anyone to paste anything on it” she said.
She also accused the NPP of describing markets and community centers she has constructed for her constituents as a ‘hen coop’.
“How can you paste your poster on a ‘hen coop’ that I used my hard-earned money to build?” she quizzed.
