A 39-year-old Police Officer stationed at Apam District Police Command Sergeant Salihu Hifzullah popularly known as Israel has been crushed to death after a moving vehicle run over him at Gomoa Manso Check Point on the Winneba – Cape Coast Highway.
According to the Police, the suspect driver Francis Akese aged 50 was in charge of a Truck vehicle, with the registration number CR 319-11 from Mankessim towards Apam with two persons on board and upon reaching a section of the road near Greenfield Police Snap Check Point without due care and attention knocked down the Police officer.
The Police officer was seriously injured and was rushed to Apam Catholic Hospital but died while receiving treatment.
The front nearside section of the vehicle has been damaged while the Suspect driver has been detained and the Accident vehicle impounded at Apam Police Station for further investigations.
Gomoa Apam District Police Commander, DSP Moses Osakunor Confirmed this to Bryt FM News Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah but refused to be recorded since it’s a Police matter.
Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Oppong has briefed Newsmen about what happened.
The body has been conveyed from Gomoa Apam Catholic Hospital and deposited at Police Hospital morgue.
