Tidal waves and heavy rainfall have wreaked havoc on the fishing community at Gomoa Nyanyano, destroying numerous fishing canoes, nets, and outboard motors. While some canoes are beyond repair, others are missing, leaving fisherfolks devastated and stripped of their livelihood.
The affected fishermen are urging the government to provide financial support to help them recover from this disaster.
With their means of livelihood severely impacted, they require assistance to rebuild and revive their fishing activities.
Some of the fisherfolks spoke with Class news reporter Samuel Addo.
Nana Kofi Awotwe Afful, Chief Fisherman of Gomoa Nyanyano, has attributed the recent tidal wave tragedy to government negligence.
He revealed that the community had written several letters to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, requesting construction of sea defenses and dredging of the lagoon, but their pleas were ignored.
