Two gay suspects have been arrested by New Market Police under the Kasoa District Police Command in the Central region.
The suspect’s Prince Nyator 22 and Evans Amoah 23 are currently under investigation for allegedly engaging in homosexuality.
The suspects were arrested by some residents who got wind of their activities after one allegedly confessed. They were subsequently handed over to the police, according to correspondent, Eric Owusu Amponsah.
This is happening at the back of heated debate in the country about the anti -LGBTQI+ bill submitted to Parliament for it to be passed into law.
Eight MPs jointly submitted the private bill to push for the criminalization of LGBTQI+ activities in the country.
The bill, which they term as a ‘Bill on the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values’, was presented to Speaker Alban Bagbin on June 29, 2021.
The proponents want the promotion, advocacy, funding, and acts of homosexuality to be criminalized in the country.
The bill has received overwhelming endorsement of the Christian and Islamic faiths, but, criticized by some Academia and legal practitioners.
Various groups in Western Countries have also condemned the bill saying that it is human rights abuse of marginalized groups.
