A 42 years old man Kwasi Obeng who is Odikro of Assin Askanbodua in the Assin North District but resides in Gomoa Buduatta in the central region has been remanded by the court for allegedly raping his brother’s wife forcing her to attempt suicide.
Kasoa Divisional Commanding officer of Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), ASP Doris Laryea narrated that, the victim aged 39 had a misunderstanding with her husband, therefore, went to the house of her husband’s elder brother who is a sub-chief to report the issue so that he counsels his brother.
According to the DOVVSU commander, after narrating the issue to the suspect, he asked her to wait for him in his bedroom.
He then forcibly had Sexual intercourse with her and gave her Ghc50 and warned them not to disclose it to her husband.
The victim who couldn’t endure the abuse attempted suicide subsequently but was noticed and rescued.
The worried husband interrogated her on why she tried committing suicide which the victim disclosed her ordeal at the hands of his elder brother.
The husband became so incensed and thereafter reported the case to Awutu Beraku Police.
The suspect was arrested and put before court today Thursday, August 12, 2021, but remanded to reappear before the court on August 26, 2021.
Meanwhile, DOVVSU has sent the docket on the case to the Attorney General’s Department for advice.
