Seven passengers have died on the spot whiles eight (8) others are in critical condition in a fatal accident which occurred at Gomoa Anteadze on the Kasoa-Winneba-Cape Coast Highway.
The eight (8) other passengers who have sustained various degrees of injuries are currently receiving treatment at the Apam St. Lukes Catholic Hospital, Mankesim Hospital and Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital respectively.
An eyewitness narrated, “the driver lost control after he tried to overtake another Sprinter Benz Bus in front of him but failed”.
Apam District Fire Service officers say the driver of the Sprinter Benz Bus with registration number GW 7920-22 and other Sprinter Benz Bus were challenging themselves over whose car runs faster on the road which resulted in the accident.
The Fire capos disclosed that during the contest, one of the drivers lost control after a bar under the vehicle broke which resulted in the vehicle somersaulting several times before hitting a tree at the roadside.
Confirming this to Bryt Fm News Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah, Apam District Fire Service Commander ACFO Ankomah Nuamah revealed that, seven of the passengers died at the spot whiles the rest are seriously injured.
ACFO Ankomah Nuamah said three of them are females whiles others are males.
Meanwhile, Gomoa Apam District Fire Service Commander ACFO Adolf Ankomah Nuamah says the accident could have been prevented if the driver was not overspeeding.
