A 30-year old man Nana Kofi Amofa alias Kofi Yesu, has been arrested by the Central East Regional Police Intelligence Department (PID) in an attempt to sell his senior brother’s 6-year old daughter for GHC150,000 towards acquiring a visa to Canada.
The suspect was arrested at Obolo Estate in Gomoa Buduburam.
Police say, they had information that, the suspect has expressed desire to sell the six(6) year old girl(name withheld) to get money to travel to Canada, so police immediately dispatched men leading to his arrest.
Sources say, officers from the Police Intelligence Department contracted a man as a buyer who expressed interest of buying the victim.
In a conversation, the suspect demanded Ghc150,000.
After the arrest, the suspect confirmed, the victim is a daughter of his senior brother, Kwadwo Brako, who is currently in his hometown, Nyamebekyere.
Upon interrogation, the suspect revealed that, the girl was living with her parents at Nyamebekyere near Ofoase – Ayirebi in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region and requested the girl to come and stay with him at Gomoa Budumburam to have access to better education not knowing he was going to sell her and use the money to acquire Visa and plane ticket towards traveling to Canada.
Currently, the the victim and the suspect have been handed over to Kasoa Dovvsu Comand for further investigations.
